thriving in whos eyes and what for..

it says in the bible that you should not store up your treasure on earth but you should store up your treasure in heaven.. my question is why do need treasure in heaven? and what makes saving money so bad? the lord has asked me to submit lots of things of both material and non material to him so that way I would stay close to him and not stray off in my own daydreams and ambitions and identities. and in trying to stay obedient in that i just relised that there is a differance in saving money and storing your treasures on earth. the bible goes on to talk about how a theif can steal away your treasure on earth. I think instead of just money your treasure is something that is a line of security to lean on. take for example the money that you saved, if you get layed off for what ever reason then you just rely on your savings for a week or two until you can get into another job or source of income now what if that money was stolen what else will you rely on? is your faith in God based on you how much money you have?? but money is easy to talk about because thats the typical example, what about guitar or a girl/boyfriend what if you lost your girlfriend, or the lord asked you to give up all your music and instruments? would God still be God? for me (and this may be a dead horse for some of you) at one point it would have been martial arts because I would rely on that before I relied on God. and Outside of proving that I was tuff I didnt know who I was! so back to what the scriptures say store up our treasure in heaven… hmm I think that money isnt treasure but security and you can store up your security in that band, girl/boy, look, intellegence, etc. or you cant prosper in those but your treasure will be to know that God is God and no matter what comes and goes on earth he wil be your security.

Bryan…great insight into this. we have such security issues in this world don’t we? it’s all about learning to trust God entirely, letting go of controlling and securing our own lives in our own strength and ability. Tough!

I miss talking deep more often with ya bud. Security is a great place to check for impostor gods.
Good thoughts… saving money is genius.

You should really blog more. That is really cool. There were some major God substitutes in my life that I had to get rid of…but I think the question is what can we do without. You are awesome!
